DC FinTech Week 2018

FinTech Week 2018During Fintech Week, thought leaders from fintech firms across the country—from Amazon to Zcash—describe their business, and explain how their services intersect with markets for a global audience consisting of policymakers, market participants, lawyers, and thought-leaders. This year, an international array of regulators—from the Chairman of the CFTC to the Co-Director of Colombia’s central bank—will in turn lay out their perspective on the future of fintech regulatory policy at Georgetown, the IMF and on Capitol Hill.

Fintech Week’s origins lay in the unveiling of the OCC fintech charter by then Comptroller of the Currency Thomas Curry at Georgetown Law’s Institute of International Economic Law. Since then the IIEL has been a locus for some of Washington’s most vaunted and high profile discussions of fintech policy and innovation. Fintech Week’s founder and the Institute’s director is Professor Chris Brummer.

Keynotes from the IMF, Heads of Top Regulatory Agencies and the Private Sector

As a kick-off to its Second Annual Fintech Week, Georgetown University’s Institute of International Economic Law will co-host with the International Monetary Fund a two-day research and policy workshop on crypto-assets.

The workshop—which will gather some of the world’s leading legal experts, economists, tech developers and regulators—will analyze the supervision, operation and utility of cryptocurrencies and accompanying blockchain technologies across global market, economic and legal ecosystems.  The following two days will focus on US regulatory developments in both crypto-markets and cybersecurity, as well as discuss market innovation and venture capital opportunities in fintech, regtech and data infrastructures.

The final day, co-hosted with the Institute for Financial Markets, takes us to Capitol Hill, steps from the Senate and House Congressional Offices. Participants will convene to discuss issues including Regulatory Sandboxes; Cross-border Fintech Regulation and Competition; and Cybersecurity and Digital Infrastructures.
